Ask what needs to be established first
A detection method is most useful when it answers a clear question. Before localisation, the engineer may need evidence of the affected system or section. Meter behaviour, isolation and suitable pressure checks can guide that decision. Choosing a device before understanding the pipework can produce information that is difficult to interpret.
When listening can help
Acoustic equipment compares sounds that may be associated with escaping water. Pipe material, depth, pressure and background noise influence the usefulness of the result. Traffic, pumps and ordinary flow can complicate interpretation. A weak sound does not automatically mean that the pipe is sound or that the leak lies somewhere else.
When tracer testing can add evidence
A suitable tracer-gas test uses an appropriately prepared pipe section and a detector to investigate where gas emerges. It can help in circumstances where sound is difficult to use. Gas can also move along voids, ducts or membranes, so an emerging signal needs to be considered with the physical layout and other findings.
Two indications are not always independent proof
Several readings can be influenced by the same construction feature. Good interpretation considers why the results appear where they do, whether the assumed route is credible and what uncertainty remains. The engineer should explain why the proposed access is proportionate to the evidence rather than relying on a colourful image or isolated signal.
Keep the equipment choice within the agreed investigation
Leak Seaker selects appropriate techniques for the property and suspected system. The residential package does not promise every listed method at every visit. It provides the agreed investigation and repair journey, including necessary access, parts, testing and the Written Trace & Access report. Decorative and remedial reinstatement remains separate.
How Leak Seaker can help
Our underground leak detection starts with the symptoms and relevant history. For an agreed residential job, the £1,750 package includes specialist detection, necessary access, plumbing repair, parts, testing and an Written Trace & Access report, with a one-year workmanship warranty.
Decorative and remedial reinstatement is excluded. Cover and reimbursement depend on your insurer and policy. Commercial instructions are quoted separately.
